These are the findings of the Education Review Office’s latest report on Churchill Park School.
Churchill Park School is set in a semi-rural environment, a feature that is greatly valued by students, parents and teachers. Since the 2005 ERO report a new principal and management team have been appointed. These changes in management have lead to the re-alignment of some school goals. New initiatives have been successfully introduced, including an improved programme for Year 7 and 8 students that is designed to cater for the special interests and leadership potential of pre-adolescent learners. A new classroom has been funded by the board of trustees to cater for the school’s growing roll and to support smaller class sizes, particularly in the junior school. A substantial upgrade of the school’s computer equipment at the beginning of 2008 further indicates the board’s ongoing commitment to providing quality resources for students.
Students confidently participate in classroom programmes and display independence in the way they access and use resources. They are articulate, thoughtful, and most are knowledgeable about the purpose of what they are learning. Students are, for example, aware of the school’s involvement in the enviro-school initiative. They also exhibit well developed social skills and maintain positive relationships with peers and adults. Students willingly accept responsibilities that allow them to demonstrate leadership capability and to connect with others. Noticeable are the supportive relationships that older children form with younger children in the school. |
