Grandparents day!

On Tuesday 20th September room 19 had an open day. The children invited their grandparents to share stories from their cultures and childhoods. we learnt alot about each other that day, we learnt about what makes us different and unique and also what makes us simliar to each other. It was a wonderful morning of celebrating our diversity as a class.

We had a big turn out for room 19. Glad we could all fit in!

Aisha's mum Lesa brought in some beautiful masks and ornaments from Sri Lanka, where Aisha's Grandparents are from.

Aisha and the other children enjoyed holding and admiring the beautiful masks and ornaments.

Harry's Grandmother brought in a wooden box which she used to keep her pencils in at school. the children found this very fascinating!

Harry's Grandad showed everyone a cute little camera called a 'Box Brownie' which he had bought at his school fair when he was a child. The children thought this camera looked very different to the digital cameras we use today.

Sophia's grandmother had a scottish kilt which she used to wear when she danced as a young girl. Sophia's mother also wore it as a child. Maybe one day Sophia will dance in this Kilt!

We were also treated to a delicious plate of shortbread made with the same recipe Sophia's great grandmother used. YUMMY!

This train was made by Luke's Grandfather. He recycles bits and pieces he finds and makes them into beautiful wooden toys for his grandchildren. what a lucky boy Luke is!

A few children who were unable to invite a grandparent brought in some pictures and stories about their family and where they are from. It was wonderful reading the letter from Connors grandmother and seeing all the beutiful photos Frances and Charlotte brought in. Well done!!!

We had many More amazing treasures and heirlooms brought in by Grandparents. Please come and visit our classroom to see all the photos!

what a wonderful morning of learning about who we are and where we come from!

Thank you to the grandparents and parents who joined us!!

Room 19, what a fun morning

Room 19, what a fun morning you had when your grandparents shared their treasures with you from the olden days". What a lot you learnt about life back then and also just how important grandparents are in your lives.
